Images are often more effective than mere words, and that's why taking screenshots is often a better method of showing something than by using words to describe it. Though quite handy, the Windows' default screenshot taking tool is also pretty scarce in additional features and customization possibilities. That's why many screenshot taking tools have also been created by third-party developers over the years. This one, called “Capture screenshot lite” is just one of them. It's not the best screen capture tool that I ever tested, but neither a useless one worth of being completely disregarded. On the contrary, it can prove extremely handy in a lot of situations.
As its name says, one of its main advantages is being very lightweight, small, and neat. You can let it reside unobtrusively in the system tray area and you won't even know it's up and running until you actually need it. Though simplicity is its main attribute, this program still offers handy additional features and functions. For example, it lets you capture an image of the full screen as well as of any screen area, including a rectangular window. The captured images can be saved as GIF, BMP, JPEG or PNG files. Printing or e-mailing the snapshots is also possible. Furthermore, once an image has been captured, it can be quickly edited using this same tool, as “Capture screenshot lite” also lets you add annotations and highlights to the screenshot, or erase parts of it. Unfortunately customizable hotkeys are not available.
To sum it all up, though it could be considerably improved, “Capture screenshot lite” is still a handy screenshot taking tool, and best of all, it's completely free.
